23rd March 2016 marks the 1 year anniversary of the passing of Lee Kuan Yew. A man like this only appears rarely and in time of great distress. 50 years ago, it was a time of great distress... The country being where it is now, did not happen overnight. It was planned, implemented and refined to achieve the gargantuan goals. And what an achievement it was! With a dedicated and strong team. What's next? Really, what's next? The great life, environment and country we have today is the sweat and blood of the generations before us. Because of them, we have inherited this greatness. So what is going to happen to Singapore next? 50 years from now? No one can tell for sure. But we have to do something today in order to achieve any significance in the future. So we gather. On 22nd March 2016, a group of people from all walks of life, gathered to mark the beginning of this journey, SG100 Foundation. I'm so grateful to be part of this by-invitation only event. This gala event was... amazing! It's not so much that the food is good (it's great, by the way), it's the energy of the people who were there. The people who attended are so talented, caring and it's obvious that they want to contribute to a greater purpose than self. Just being around them was incredible. Also the event has invited MP Baey Yam Keng as the VIP (there's a reason for me to mention this. Remember this information for now). We had a 1 minute of silence to commemorate MM Lee Kuan Yew.
Even though both movies are centred around the same theme; the take, mood and production are as different as night and day. I haven't seen 1965 yet but as I watch the pre-production clips and the trailer, I was tearing. It was an emotionally charged moment. Moment of clarity and pride. My friend was introducing everyone to this guy who seemed important. He came around taking pictures with everyone, greeting and shaking their hands. He extended his hand to me and said, "Hi, Nice to meet you. You are?" I introduced myself and out of courtesy said, "You are?" He looked amused, smiled at the air around him. I thought ok, fine you don't need to introduce yourself to me.
