Yasmin Ahmad proved it 8 years ago when she made the National Day TVC for Petronas, "Race". "Our children are colour blind, shouldn't we keep them that way?". It was a very powerful ad and Yasmin nailed it with its simplicity. Now fast forward 8 years later. Yasmin is gone for the 7th year now. And yet, we're not better than when she was still around. In the previous article, we spoke on the dismal education statistics of Malaysia. But the fact is, one big glaring illusionary issue exists within Malaysia that shouldn't be. Race. Racism exists everywhere but the recent distorted Malaysian news that states Bersih 4 is only non-Malay and non-Muslim is just going too far. Malaysians have already been dealing with this old issue in the bloody, shaky birth of Malaysia. In fact, the general public is in a higher state of racial harmony than the Malaysian government thinks. [2] Malaysians in general are more knowledgable than 58 years ago. We are able to think for our own. Differently even. We able to judge and make decisions fairly without bias. After all, discrimination is learned. The general Malaysian public has learned from our past. Can the government at the very least acknowledge that and move on? Human are not born to discriminate. We pass it on to our children. Without better awareness, this will and can go on forever. Is this what we want for our country?
